Putting

Move the ball or hole to set the distance. Drag the level to set uphill/downhill and side slope; swipe the grain circle in the direction the grass grows. Tap either circle to return it to zero. Tap Green Speed to match today’s green. Below it, set Baseline Speed to the Stimp speed you usually practise at your home club (default 10). Tap the information icon for an explanation. Plays gives a familiar stroke distance for your practice green, adjusted for today’s speed, slope and grain. Tap Done to save; closing cancels changes. Your baseline is saved on your device and kept when you reset a shot. The large arrow gives sideways aim at cup distance; the smaller arrow gives the pace adjustment. The line and pace are estimates for a uniform surface.

Camera distance

On the putting screen, press and hold Hold to Auto on the right near Distance. After granting camera access for the first time, release and hold again. A large camera circle opens on the left. Move the phone slowly to let it recognise the ground, then aim at the point where the ball meets the grass. Hold steady until the ring turns green and a light vibration confirms the first point. Keep holding and move the reticle to grass beside the hole, at the base of the flag. A line connects the ball point to the ground target. Hold the hole point steady briefly, then release to apply the distance. The hole stays in place and the putt updates; the camera closes after about one second.

The limit is 5 metres. When the target is beyond the limit or the ground cannot be measured, the line stops extending and dims. There are no text warnings in the camera circle. Releasing without a fresh stable target keeps the previous distance. Each attempt starts with a new ball point. The final Distance uses your chosen Big distances unit; steps use your personal step length. Camera measurement needs a physical iPhone with ARKit world tracking; LiDAR helps on supported models. Distances are approximate, and displayed decimals do not imply centimetre accuracy. Aim at ground points, not the top of the flag. If Auto slope is running, lock the slope before lifting the phone; starting the camera stops unlocked Auto readings.

Auto slope

Tap Auto, place your iPhone screen-up on the green with the top pointing toward the cup, and hold it still. When the reading settles, tap the lock before lifting the phone. Auto measures the surface under your phone, not the entire route to the hole. Tap Calibrate beside Auto on a known level surface to adjust for the camera bump or case. Save level stores a correction for future Auto readings. Recalibrate when your case or placement changes; Reset calibration removes the correction. If motion is unavailable, turn Auto off and set the slope manually.

Chipping

Use the bottom arrow to switch modes. Move the ball and hole to set the distances from the green edge. Tap the recommended club for alternatives and calibration. Set the ball’s lie and add a bunker if needed. A high-pitch suggestion is illustrative: bounce, spin and final rollout are not predicted.

Reset and units

Reset restores the current shot: putting to 2.5 steps, or chipping to 10 steps onto the green and 2 steps off it, with the ball sitting up. Slope and grain return to zero. Units and calibrations remain saved. Set your step length and preferred units in Menu. Shot controls in Menu provide an alternative to dragging.

Using the app on the course

Up and Down is a practice and planning aid. Estimates cannot measure the entire green or guarantee a result. Follow the rules of your event when using measuring or advice tools.
